The?Raspberry Pi 3 Model B ?is the latest product in the Raspberry Pi 3 range, boasting a 64-bit quad core processor running at 1.4 GHz, dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless LAN, Bluetooth 4.2/BLE, faster Ethernet, and PoE capability via a separate PoE HAT
The dual-band wireless LAN comes with modular compliance certification, allowing the board to be designed into end products with significantly reduced?wireless LAN compliance testing, improving both cost and time to market.
The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B maintains the same mechanical footprint as both the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B and the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B.

So what’s new?

  • Processor speed has increased from 1.2Ghz on Pi 3 to?1.4GHz?64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU
    • Alongside a 200MHz increase in peak CPU clock frequency, we have roughly?three times the wired and wireless network throughput, and the ability to sustain high performance for much longer periods.
  • New Dual-band?802.11ac?wireless LAN, 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz with embedded antenna
  • Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy
  • Faster Ethernet?(Gigabit Ethernet over USB 2.0)
  • New support for Power-over-Ethernet support (with separate PoE HAT)
  • Improved compatibility for network booting
  • Improved PXE network and USB mass-storage booting
  • Improved thermal management

What’s the same?

  • Same form factor as the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B (your enclosures and daughter boards should still fit, however some of the LEDs have changed position).
  • Same full-size HDMI port
  • Same 10/100 Ethernet port
  • Same CSI camera port and DSI display ports
  • Same micro USB power supply connection

Software installation
Beginners should start with the?NOOBS (New Out Of Box Software)?operating system installation manager, which gives the user a choice of operating system from the standard distributions.
SD cards with NOOBS pre-installed should be available from any of our global distributors and resellers.
Alternatively, you can?download NOOBS.
Raspbian is the recommended operating system for normal use on a Raspberry Pi.
You can browse basic examples to help you get started with some of the?software available in Raspbian, find more detail?about the Raspbian operating system, or read information on?fundamental Linux usage and commands for navigating the Raspberry Pi?and managing its file system and users.
